Bogus Investment Scheme Consumers across the country are being alerted to the latest pyramid scheme to hit Scotland. 'KF Concept' are inviting people to roadshows in Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow from the 3rd of June. The scheme offers a 500% return on 'investments' with no risk to the initial capital, which is clearly impossible in a genuine investment. One worried Keith resident has stopped a cheque to the operators for £10,000 after realising the true nature of the scheme. Bill Cassie, SCOTSS Chairman stated: 'This is not an investment. It is a pyramid scam. Money does not grow on trees, and it is impossible to make huge profits without risk. As a rule, the greater the return on an investment, the greater the risk, so a claimed 500% return is extremely risky. If the scheme was as good as the promoters say, they would make the investment themselves without sharing it with strangers. I would strongly advise against getting involved in this type of scheme.' Pyramid scams have a long and sorry history of relieving people of their hard earned money. 'Women Empowering Women' was the last high profile scheme leaving a trail of participants £1000s out of pocket. All pyramid schemes are doomed to failure, because they do not produce goods or services. They only circulate money between participants. For every £1 someone makes, someone else loses a £1 The organisers win, with participants loosing out. Many pyramid schemes breach the Fair Trading Act and some may leave operators open to action for theft and deception. Anyone with concerns about pyramid schemes can contact their local Trading Standards office - details on the www.scotss.org.uk site.
